Dragon's Blood: Rainforest Medicine

Dragon’s Blood is the red sap or latex (and also its bark) of the tree Croton lechleri (Sangre de drago) in the Amazon Rainforest.

Medicinal-Biological Activities:

Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antiseptic, Antifungal, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-diarrheal, Anti-tumorous, Antioxidant, Astringent, Anti-hemorrhagic, Hemostatic (stops bleeding), Cicatrizant (closes wounds), Vulnerary (heals wounds).

Dragon's blood heals:

Externally all types of cuts, scrapes, external wounds, burns, cold sores, canker sores, leucorrhea, fractures, and hemorrhoids, in vaginal baths before and after childbirth, for hemorrhaging after childbirth, and for bites, stings, rashes, and skin problems, including eczema and plant reactions, skin and nail fungi.

Internally intestinal fevers and pyorrhea. Also used for ulcers in the mouth, throat, small and large intestines and stomach; peptic ulcers, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, stomach viruses and HIV; for upper respiratory viruses, tonsillitis, throat infections, bleeding gums, tuberculosis, rheumatism, internally and externally for cancer and, and as a general tonic.

Dosage:

Externally, the resin/sap is rubbed directly on the affected area several times daily and allowed to dry. It forms a “scab” which promotes healing of the tissues underneath.
Please note: the resin is red! It will temporarily stain the skin a reddish-brown (which will wash off), but it will permanently stain clothing when wet.

Internally, the traditional remedy is 10-30 drops in a small amount of liquid, taken 1-3 times daily. For general tonic drink 2-5 drops in a little water once a day. Increase dosage and frequency with the severity of the problem. Gargle for sore throat and use as mouth wash to keep mouth and teeth free of bacteria.
