Individualized
Metabolic Nutrition
The purpose of Metabolic Typing
is to find metabolic imbalances. We then correct them with an individualized metabolic
nutrition plan tailored to each person. This, in time, restores optimum good health
and well being.
The basic principle of Metabolic Typing is
that the blood has an ideal pH level at which all nutrients (protein, carbohydrates,
fats, vitamins and minerals) are best absorbed and utilized. The pH scale ranges
from 1 to 14, the most acidic and the most alkaline. pH 7 is neutral. Blood pH
of 7.46 (slightly alkaline) is considered the optimal level for our health-like
98.6 F is considered a healthy body temperature.
Changes in the
blood pH are caused by stressful lifestyle, haphazard eating habits and
external pollutants. The more your pH is out of balance, the less efficient your
metabolism becomes. Ineffective metabolism opens the doors to weight gain, fatigue
and illness. If your blood is too acidic or too alkaline, you simply will not
be able to assimilate many nutrients and enzymes. It has been scientifically proven
that an acidic internal environment leads to illness. For example, acidified blood
tends to leach calcium from bones contributing to osteoporosis, and from teeth
contributing to cavities and gum disease. In addition, bacteria and viruses flourish
in an overly acidic situation leading to recurrent colds and flu.
Your
Metabolic Type defines the way in which your body processes food to produce
energy. There are two main control mechanisms which regulate our metabolism. These
are the Autonomic Nervous System and the Oxidative System. These two systems regulate
the mode and speed at which the nutrients are converted into energy in the body
and determine our ability to utilize food, vitamins and minerals.
The
Oxidative System defines the speed at which the body converts food to
energy. The Autonomic Nervous System defines the mode by which the
body converts food to energy. The blood pH is a reliable indicator of the balance
within these basic control mechanisms.
People with different metabolic
types react differently to the same nutrients. Many foods and nutrients can actually
have the opposite effect in the body depending on which system predominates. For
instance in the case of osteoporosis, people with oxidative acid metabolism need
calcium supplements; people with oxidative alkaline metabolism need potassium,
magnesium, and manganese.
The Metabolic Typing Process involves
a series of simple tests performed on an empty stomach. The testing, filling out
questionnaires and discussion take approximately three hours to complete. First
we take a series of baseline readings, then administer a modified glucose challenge
drink, followed by three more timed test cycles. The test results, as well
as your answers to the Metabolic Typing Questionnaire, allow me to identify your
Metabolic Type. Your Individualized Metabolic Nutrition Plan includes a list of
foods and supplements that are tailored to your specific metabolism.
Metabolic
Typing Self Test Kit includes the Metabolic Typing Questionnaire, blood glucose
meter, urine and saliva pH test strip. It is a less complete testing than an in-office
test, but still reliable. If you would like to order a Metabolic Typing Self Test
